Check for DNS leaks

3 minutesFor: EveryoneMain guide step 5: Check it works

What it is

A DNS leak: when you visit a foreign site, its name is first looked up with Chinese DNS, letting test sites see your province and provider.

This setup’s subscription already handles it: unlisted foreign sites aren’t looked up locally — they’re handed straight to the server.

How to test

Open ip.net.coffee/claude/ and look at the “DNS leak test”:

You should see

The DNS exit isn’t in China (usually overseas DNS such as Cloudflare or Google).

If Chinese DNS shows up

  1. Update the subscription: tap “Update” on it in your app to get the latest rules (the setup fixed this in October 2026).
  2. Turn on Tun Mode on computers, and check Clash Verge’s DNS Overwrite is off (it replaces the subscription’s DNS settings).
  3. Turn off other proxies: other proxies or boosters on the device skew the result.
  4. On Windows, with Tun Mode on, also turn on Strict Route so Windows can’t bypass Clash for DNS.

Tip

Using Chinese DNS for Chinese sites is normal — that’s for speed. The test is about foreign sites.
